—Allen Hyde

Our Denture Process

Our cosmetic dentures are made by taking custom impressions of the gums then designing appointments that meet each patient’s individual goals and expectations.

High-quality materials are used to resemble natural looking teeth with an excellent, comfortable fit.  Patients are amazed by the “non-denture” look they get with our custom and innovative technique.

The example below illustrates the subtle, yet very noticeable difference between old dentures and a set of custom dentures from the experts at Kingston Dental Center. As you can see, they are noticably more natural and realistic, and less like dentures.

We find that, with careful communication with each patient about their desired look and feel, the patient gets the exact look they desired. Patients will sometimes show us a picture of how they would like their teeth to look, and we work hard to get as close as possible to duplicating it. Our goal is to ensure that each and every patient is very pleased with the end result.  We get excellent results due to our doctor’s expertise with making dentures and the materials available today.

Precision-Fit (Neuromuscular) Dentures

When dentures are made by a cosmetic dentist, they are made to fit “neuromuscularly”. This means they are precision-fit specifically for your jaw and bite to assure the most comfortable fit.

Most patients prefer neuromuscular dentures, also known as precision fit dentures, due to their quality of natural appearance and comfort. These dentures practically eliminate adjustments and you will wear them all the time with comfort and confidence.

When your dentist fits your dentures to the most comfortable bite for you, most likely a computerized jaw tracking system will be used to measure your natural bite.  The dentures are made to those exact specifications and final adjustments are made at that point utilizing the same equipment.

Neuromuscular dentures are more expensive. For most patients, the comfort and fit however, outweighs the cost.

Denture Post-Op Recovery

You may be wondering about the post-op or recovery expectations. This could be a two-step process. If extractions are done, it can take up to 8 weeks or possibly longer for some patients to recover.

Once you have completely healed and the dentures are in place, you will have an adjustment period to become comfortable and used to your new teeth. Even though you should be able to speak quite normally within a few hours, you could experience some minor discomfort while chewing or eating. This adjustment period could last for a few days up to a few weeks. It would be to your advantage and is recommended that patients with new dentures eat soft foods until you become comfortable with the chewing process.

What about possible complications?

There aren’t any known complications from the use of dentures.
